Decide who gets in at the Doorway
New senders wait at the Doorway until you choose where their mail belongs.
What the Doorway is
The first time a sender writes to you, their mail does not go to your Inbox. It waits at the Doorway, marked Unscreened, until you decide.
Open the Doorway from the top bar, or press G then O.
The five choices
Open a waiting sender and choose where their mail belongs.
| Choice | Key | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Inbox | 1 | People you want to hear from and answer. |
| Feed | 2 | Newsletters, updates and other reading. |
| Paper trails | 3 | Receipts, confirmations and notices. |
| Not now | 4 | Senders you are not ready to decide on. Their mail waits in Not now. |
| Spam | 5 | Mail you never want to see. |
The number keys work while the mail panel has focus.
What a decision does
Your choice applies to all mail from that sender, including mail that arrives later. After you choose, the next waiting sender opens automatically. When nobody is left, Kistrl tells you the doorway is clear.
Changing your mind
Nothing is final. Open the sender in Contacts to see their addresses and screening rules, then pick a different default stream. A contact with several addresses can send each one to a different place.
You can also set a rule for a whole domain, so new senders from that organisation go to the same place.
While a sender is waiting
Images and other external content in mail from an unscreened sender stay blocked. See Blocked content and sealed messages.
