Topic addresses and privacy addresses

Give each service its own address, and block one without touching the rest.

Every address you own delivers to the same mailbox. Extra addresses let you see where mail came from and shut one off without changing your main address.

Topic addresses

Add a topic to your address whenever you need one. There is nothing to set up first. Put +topic, -topic or .topic after your username:

  • yourname+shop
  • yourname-travel
  • yourname.newsletters

Mail to any of them arrives in your mailbox as usual.

Privacy addresses

A privacy address is a random address that does not reveal your username. Give each service its own, keep your account address private, and block mail whenever you need to.

  1. Open the command palette with ⌘ K and choose Manage privacy addresses.
  2. Choose Generate privacy address.
  3. Give it a label so you remember what it is for. The label stays private.
  4. Copy the address and use it.

Block, cancel or archive

  • Block stops mail to that exact address. You can unblock it later.
  • Cancel is permanent. The address stops receiving and sending, existing mail stays available, and the address is never given to anyone else.
  • Archive only hides an address from your lists. It keeps working until you block or cancel it.

Sending from an address

When you write a new message you can choose any active address you own. The display name and signature of that address appear in the outgoing mail. Its label does not.
