Today

One screen each morning.

Today is the whole of your mail reduced to what is yours to do: senders to place, replies you owe, deadlines that are close, and conversations that are new.

  • Needs you: new senders at the Doorway and any security notice, first.
  • Owes a reply: the conversations where someone asked you something.
  • Deadlines from your to-dos, and the new conversations since you last looked.
  • When nothing needs you, Today says so, and gets out of the way.

Doorway

New senders wait until you decide.

The first message from someone new does not land in your Inbox. It waits at the Doorway with one question: where does this sender belong?

  • Inbox, Feed, Paper trails, or Not — one decision per sender, remembered for good.
  • Changed your mind? A decision can be undone for an hour, and moved at any time.
  • Screened senders keep arriving into the Not pile. Nothing is deleted; it is simply out of your way.

Streams

Three streams, not one pile.

Mail from people is not the same as mail from machines, so Kistrl keeps them apart, and each stream has the tools it needs.

  • Inbox: conversations with people. The conversation is the row, unread is a dot, and “owes a reply” is said out loud.
  • Feed: newsletters, updates and offers, with filters and mark-all-seen.
  • Paper trails: invoices, receipts and notices become records with an amount, a reference and a date.
  • Power through: work the new conversations one at a time — read, archive, reply later, move — with a single key each.

Replies

A queue for what owes an answer.

When a message asks you something, sets a deadline, or has been waiting on you, it joins Focus & Reply. Answer every pending message together on one focused screen.

  • Each complete message stays visible beside its own autosaved reply editor.
  • Review and send each answer in place. Models never send mail.
  • Open one pending item and it uses the ordinary conversation screen, not a second reply reader.
  • Set a conversation aside for later without losing it; it comes back to Today when it is due.

Objects, files, dates and to-dos

Mail becomes the thing it is about.

A trip, an order, a project, a claim. Kistrl recognises the thing a message belongs to and files it there, with whatever it carried.

  • Attachments become files, sorted by kind — travel, money, contracts — and found from one Files screen.
  • Dates in mail become entries on a calendar with day, week and month views.
  • Asks with a due date become to-dos; the urgent ones surface on Today.
  • Contacts collect the people and organisations across every conversation, with duplicates merged in a click.

Write

A composer that cannot lose your words.

Press W anywhere. Reply, reply all, forward, or start from nothing. The draft is a row on the server from the first keystroke, so closing the tab costs nothing.

  • Recipients autocomplete from the people your workspace already knows.
  • Sending queues the message for a moment first, so a send can be taken back.
  • Drafts have their own screen, and Focus & Reply and Ask can hand you one to finish.

Ask Kistrl

Ask in plain words.

Everything Kistrl has filed — conversations, files, objects, records — can be asked a question. Answers point back to where they came from.

  • “What did Hana say about the ninth?” “How much did the Kyoto trip cost so far?”
  • Ask can draft a reply for you; you decide whether it goes.
  • Search is one keystroke away on every screen and covers messages, contacts, files and objects.

Safety

Someone else’s HTML never touches your app.

A message is a document from a stranger, and Kistrl handles it as one — without asking you to think about it.

  • Bodies are cleaned on arrival and rendered inside a sandboxed frame with a strict content policy.
  • Remote images are fetched by Kistrl at ingest and served from its own storage; opening a message never contacts a third party.
  • Security notices — sign-in alerts, password resets — get their own pile and a red pill in the sidebar until you have looked.
